How to eat for glowing skin this summer

As the sun shines more brightly, you might be preparing your summer wardrobe pondering ways to look and feel fantastic this summer. In particular you may be thinking of what you can do to enhance your skin's natural health and radiance. While creams and lotions can certainly help with this, why not enhance your skin's health from the inside too? What you eat can have a big effect on the health of your skin.


So here’s my guide to of the top foods to include in your diet to help you look and feel great this summer.

Beetroot: Packed with antioxidants, and also high in nitrates that can boost blood flow, which helps deliver nutrients and oxygen to skin cells effectively, promoting healthy skin and potentially reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Broccoli: Broccoli florets contain sulforaphane, a compound with potential anti-cancer effects and protection against sun damage. It neutralises harmful free radicals and activates protective systems in the body.

Carrots and sweet potato: Orange vegetables are high in beta carotene (vitamin A), are vital for healthy skin. They act as a natural sunblock, protecting skin cells from sun exposure when consumed.

Lemon and oranges: Loaded with vitamin C, lemon and oranges aids collagen production, Collagen helps skin with its elasticity and firmness, helping to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Pumpkin Seeds: Rich in zinc, pumpkin seeds promote skin cell regeneration, improve skin tone, and help control oil production.

Oily fish: Oily fish, such as salmon, are excellent foods for healthy skin. Due to their high omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamin E levels, which are important for maintaining skin health and reducing inflammation which can cause redness and acne.

Strawberries and red grapes : Packed with antioxidants, particularly resveratrol, that helps skin health by combating free radicals, reducing inflammation, and protecting against UV damage, therefore contributing to a smoother, more youthful appearance and improved skin barrier function.

Tomatoes: Rich in lycopene, tomatoes act as a natural sunscreen and help tighten pores. Beta carotene, lutein, and lycopene have been shown to protect your skin against damage from the sun. They may also help prevent wrinkling.

Green tea: Packed with antioxidants, Green tea may help protect your skin from damage and aging. The powerful compounds found in green tea are called catechins and work to improve the health of your skin in several ways.

Water: An obvious one but so important, water is crucial for keeping skin looking healthy and vibrant as it helps maintain elasticity, supports cell function, and aids in flushing out toxins, leading to a more radiant and youthful complexion.
